If you've never heard of or been part of a Scottish Highland cattle tour, you may be wondering what makes a Scottish Highland cattle tour special. Maybe you think that the name is self-explanatory and that a farm tour simply involves driving out to a pasture to watch some cows graze. At Black Hills Highlands, our tours are designed to be a friendly, hands-on introduction to both Scottish Highland cattle and to the ever-changing prairie ecosystem. We'll start with a brief safety talk including an overview of what to expect and how to behave around our cattle. They're part of our family, after all! During our pasture and Scottish Highland cattle adventure we will explain the close relationship between cattle and native prairie and describe how we manage grazing, nutrients, and water to maintain and improve our grasslands and area wildlife. We will talk about Highland cattle and what makes them so adapted to different climates. We will discuss what makes them so different from other cattle. Our tour is an interactive experience. You will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with our Scottish Highland fold, experience their different personalities, and pet and feed them. They enjoy being around people and are very photogenic. Every day is a new day on the prairie. Conditions and the cattle's use of the land are ever-changing. No two tours are alike.

As our time on the pasture and with the cattle come to a close, you may be thinking that the tour is over. Not true.
